Happy Birthday to ME!

Another year has come and gone for me so I’m not 29 and a few years old new.  I’m not going to say how old but my friends know how old I really am.  Unlike one of my previous birthday’s, this one isn’t a milestone birthday so no big gift will be coming my way which is fine with me.  I have plenty of toys to keep me occupied.  The one thing that I am doing that is special for my birthday is that I’m going to see Jo Koy at the Paradise Improv this Saturday.

I’m still researching eating options but I think I have one or two in mind.  I’m trying to limit how many times I go to the Hard Rock since I will be going there the week after for my wife’s birthday party!  I love having my birthday so close to hers, its like having a week of non stop celebration when we’re both at home.  Well that’s it for now.  I need rest before I have to work on my birthday but at least I get to fly home too which is nice 🙂

The Chinese Drywall Saga Continues

My Chinese Drywall saga continues this month by making a lot of contact with my builder concerning my move to temporary housing while they rip out all the drywall in my home.  So far myself and the Mrs. have gone and solicited quotes from moving companies, investigated the apartments we get to pick from, and looked for deals concerning storage space.  I may be tentatively scheduled to start my move in August but the apartment they are suggesting is in a community that I don’t want to live in and neither does my wife.  We found the place a little on the ghetto side with lots of loud music during the day (even though we’re not there but we suspect they play it at night too), and the fact that its right off of Pines Blvd.  I’m trying to hold out for a different community in Miramar that was a little nicer but most importantly it was a lot quieter than the one on Pines Blvd.

So far we’ve noticed that to move our stuff will cost quite a bit of money since we have a lot of stuff.  We have to move the stuff in our 3 bedroom townhouse into a 2 bedroom apartment that’s maybe half the size if not smaller and which comes with things that I own like the washer and dryer.  That means moving stuff into storage!  That should be fun.  It’s like when I first moved to South Florida and had the majority of my things in storage except now I have a lot more stuff than I did 3 years ago.

Now I have to wait and see what the builder says.  If I’m very lucky they will say that I’m going to get to go to the place in Miramar but I might have to wait until September sometime in order to do the move.  Personally I prefer that since I get the community I want along with more time to figure out what I can pack and bring to the apartment and what I can toss out or put in storage.  This is going to be a very busy summer to say the least!

Hello heat wave

I’m sitting in my hotel room at the Westin in Reston VA. I’d don’t know what they do at Westins but they always smell good. They have a distinct smell compared to any other hotel I’ve stayed in. Anyway, the reason I’m staying in doors instead of walking around town tonight is because of the extreme heat that has decided to hit the North East. I live in FL and it is pretty hot down there for a good amount of the year but it’s even hotter here than in FL. I as looking at the weather last week and it was nice and cool so I was expecting a little of that.

The heat just makes you want to do absolutely nothing except for stay indoors. I guess that’s not too bad considering I work in an office all day long. Reston is a very nice town and it’s fairly new by most standards. I like how there is free parking everywhere and how almost everything can be accessed by a bicycle or by walking with tons of paths everywhere. I would go jogging or something at night instead of using the treadmill but it’s over 90 degrees at night which is totally unacceptable. I’m just going to enjoy watching my TV in my air conditioned room tonight and then head off to the office tomorrow. I never thought I would want to go back to FL where it’s nice and cool by comparison.

Off to the nations capital for work

It’s early Monday morning and I’m sitting at the airport once again after about three weeks of staying at home. Three weeks is a long time staying at home and I’ll admit that I got pretty spoiled but it’s good to get back on the road for a little bit. This is going to be a nice short week so I won’t be traveling for that long. I say in the title that I’m going to be traveling toWashington DC but that really isn’t true.n I’ll be using the airports in the DC area but I’m really going to Reston, VA for work.

From what I remember, Reston is a nice place and everything is within walking distance from the office. That should make things considerably easier for this week and possibly next week. I don’t know if I’m traveling next week as well but I’ll soon find out. I’m going to be staying at the Westin which is not my normal hotel chain. It’s going to be a little painful not having status but I think I can manage.

I truly believe that every weekend should be a three day weekend. This gives me way more time to recharge for the coming week and to do things that are important to me like spend time at home with my wife and catch up on my hobbies (if I had any) lol. I don’t think I’m going to have another three day weekend until July 30th and to me that’s too far away. At least it gives me something to look forward to. It’s only Tuesday and I’m already looking forward to the weekend. Cant wait to have some fun in the sun!

Time for the long weekend

The beginning of July always brings with it the 4th of July holiday here in the ole USA.  It’s the birthday of the country so of course there is a reason to celebrate.  This year happens to be extra sweet with both the World Cup and Wimbledon going on at the same time.  I personally think more people are interested in watching the World Cup this year than Wimbledon, which is especially true in South Florida.

I don’t have any plans yet for this weekend, I just know that I’m going to be packing up my work computer and putting it away until I go to DC this coming week.  The forecast is calling for lots of rain so I don’t know how festive its going to get around here.  I might end up spending a lot of it at home renting movies or something.  I want to see some fireworks this year but its all a matter of finding them.  I hear that my home town of Stamford CT isn’t even having fireworks this year which surprises me since they have always had them.

I think I should go out and buy a couple of bottles of my favorite beer and enjoy the weekend like every other American on the planet.  Some nice burgers on the grill would be awesome too.  We’ll see if mother nature wants to cooperate with my ideas or not.  Happy 4th of July!
